It was finally on the market. The old haunted house was up for grabs and would finally be turned into a work of beauty. Our beautiful leafy street in Richmond had undergone the usual effects of gentrification. Renovation after renovation occurred of old brickwork houses into modern day art works. Over the last ten years every house had been transformed from ugly ducklings into statement pieces. Marble front doors, landscaped driveways and polished concrete columns paved the sidewalks with one exception. Number 31 had been vacant for four years. The last family moved back to Oman and left it abandoned, it is rumored to be filled with the ghosts of their elderly relatives. The family who have bought it spent a very long time dealing with conveyancing services, Melbourne is a hotbed of red tape when it comes to abandoned properties. They were a lovely young family looking to take on an ambitious property project. They wanted to convert the building into a spacious family home with a self contained unit in the garden to rent out. If they could pull it off they would stand to earn a lot of money. Nobody on the street dared shared the rumours and hubbub about their future home with them. This was mainly for selfish motivations, we were all terrified that if they knew they would pull out of the deal. Hopefully there were far enough down the line with the conveyancing, Richmond is a fast moving market so they tend to move quickly when closing deals, that if anyone did spill the beans they wouldn’t be able to get out of it. Immoral? perhaps, but that house has plagued our road for long enough now and this family deserves the chance to make it a home without battling horrible rumours! After all, they were just rumours and no one had any proof of scary happenings to suggest otherwise.
