I was driving home from work and I noticed a small cat on the side of the road. Not a kitten, but a small cat. I didn’t have time to stop and investigate but it seemed an odd scene. It was nestled into the flower beds outside someone’s house and looked as if it was hiding from something. After I had passed I didn’t think about it again, I continued my drive home and admired all the spring flowers making their way onto the bushes and trees. The next day as I was driving by the same spot I noticed the exact same small cat nestled into a flower bed. I could see someone had just planted some hyacinth mixed bulbs and this little feline was ripping them right out of the soil. Again I didn’t have time to stop but this time it stayed with me a little longer. I wondered why it was always in that same flower bed and why it was so small. Life is full of mysteries. I didn’t see it again for about a week but I always checked. I actually noticed that the residents had started constructing a fence around their flower beds, most like to protect their spring bulbs from being ravaged by a wild cat. Although when I returned and saw the cat again it had managed to traverse the fence and was nestling into the soil once again. This time I did have to stop and I made a full investigation. The cat seemed to be extremely old and thin. I couldn’t feel a microchip under its skin and it did not have a collar on so I assume it is stray. It’s condition would suggest it does not have a home. I decided to take it with me. In the coming weeks that I drove past the spring flowers were blooming so beautifully from the fenced garden.
