My grandfather had just given me a very generous two hundred dollars for Christmas and told me to spend it wisely on something that would be very special to me. While wandering through the shopping centre the other day, my girlfriend and I did our usual stop in at the local pet store. I saw what I believe was the cutest kitten I’d ever seen in my life, so I decided to buy her as my Christmas present from my grandfather. We took the kitten home without buying a cage, figuring it would be easy to train her to be a inside cat. I had it all planned out and everything was going really well with my bundle of cuddly joy.
After fifteen minutes of the kitten running around the living room, it did something unthinkable. Neither my girlfriend nor I had thought about taking the kitten outside. We had a little accident on the carpet, it didn’t even cross my mind. I raced over and picked up the kitten, putting it in it’s litter box in an attempt to train her.
By the following morning there were stains littered across the carpet. The cat had marked it’s territory and made it very clear that she was here to stay. My girlfriend was off to buy a cage and I was on the phone to a company in Melbourne that does carpet steam cleaning, trying to arrange an appointment. I should have known better than to let a kitten run around on new carpet. I feel silly for not putting down a sheet or something.
Once I’d confirmed the appointment with tile and grout cleaners, Melbourne was my oyster again. I hung up the phone and scribbled a quick message on the fridge to my partner. I was off to work and my girlfriend would be the only one home later. I figured she should know about the carpet cleaning, the team would be turning up on Tuesday. I giggled at the thought of them arriving unexpectedly and catching her unaware. It was best for everyone that she knew ahead ot time.
