The decision to move to Melbourne was not an easy one. Having spent most of my life in Tasmania I was a little uncertain when a job opportunity opened up in trendy Melbourne. I run a small blog on coin collecting and have written a few ebooks on the subject. I have quite a few very old coins that are worth a lot of money. I knew I wouldn’t be able to take my precious coins with me, I wasn’t sure if my new place had a floor safe or not. I knew it would be best to keep them safely locked away.
I’m glad my father convinced me to go, I’m having a lot of fun here in Melbourne. I’m having trouble adjusting to the heat though, Melbourne is very warm most of the time. We don’t usually get such high temperatures even in Summer. Melbourne on the other hand can get blisteringly hot. The first thing I did when I moved into the small house on the outskirts of town was get air conditioning repairs. Melbourne culture is all about sitting outside of a cafe in Summer and drinking a latte while reading the newspaper. I have red hair so sitting out in the sun is a no go for me.
The previous tenant in my home must not have had the air conditioner serviced regularly because when I first turned it out it made a clunky noise and then stopped working. Thankfully she had left a fridge magnet with the number for an air conditioning servicing company based in Melbourne. Perhaps she had planned on getting it fixed before she left the house. My first night was not very pleasant, trying to sleep in a house without adequate cooling is not a good idea. I had a terrible dream that I had left my floor safe open and someone had broken in and stolen my coins. I woke up sweating and had to call my mother to go check on the safe for me. That first night was awful but once air conditioning had repaired I felt a lot better. I start at the auction house tomorrow, hopefully I can snap up rare coins myself to put in the home safe. I’m still not sure I made the right decision to move here.
