He had always loved her. They had known each other for approaching sixty years and although their love hadn’t taken on different forms in the past, it had always been there, one of the only constants of their lives he had always thought. She organised the aluminium window repairs in Melbourne and left a note for him explaining what needed to be done and that she already taken care of the payment. He couldn’t quite remember what had broken the windows in the first place. He remembers hearing the glass shatter, and feeling it of course, but he also remembers being fine and standing up to inspect the damage to the window frame. He had tried calling her numerous times but her phone kept going straight to voicemail, he hated when it did that. With the window repairs set to take place later that day he got on with his morning routine but couldn’t shake the fuzzy feeling in his mind. Eventually she returned his calls and explained that it hadn’t been his fault the window had broken, and he needn’t not worry he just needs to let in the window repair man and show him which one is broken. Aluminium windows in Melbourne are rare these days as they are a little old fashioned so they had to hunt down an expert to do the repairs. Hearing her voice comforted him and for about an hour he hadn’t thought about the window damage at all. When the window repair man came he was able to show him the damage to the aluminium frame and leave him to it. The payment had been taken care of and now his job had too. When she returned home later that evening they hadn’t discussed the repairs, although he caught her tracing the new window frame with her hand and smiling.
